About Us

The objectives of The Opeyemi Agbaje Institute Ltd/Gte include to promote and advance thinking, knowledge, research and application of policy and strategy formulation and implementation in the society in relation to economic development and public policy; business strategy, entrepreneurship and business environment; and public, private sector, and society, management and leadership.

Our vision is to be “a catalyst for transformation of policy, governance and development in Nigeria, Africa and the Diaspora” and our mission is “illuminating issues of policy, strategy, leadership and implementation towards bringing Africa into the first world”
Our values are Knowledge, Inclusiveness, Action, Commitment and Development- we believe knowledge is the raw material for human progress; we must include people and stakeholders and hear their perspectives in a bottom-up policy formulation approach; we must be action-oriented, seeking practical, implementable solutions and lead by not just saying but doing; we must show extraordinary passion and commitment to our mission; and our objective must always be development of the individuals in society and the community as a composite.
We define our concentric areas of concern progressively - Ogun and Lagos States, Western Nigeria, Nigeria, Africa, and the African Diaspora and we will sequence our activities, initiatives and interventions based on this concentricity.

About The Founder/CEO

Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje was born in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State on April 6, 1965.

His parents, both late were Mr. Solomon Babatunde Agbaje, an educationist and indigene of Ofin, Sagamu and Mrs. Margaret Ojuolape Agbaje (nee Olokun) of Makun, Sagamu.

His parents, both teachers, inculcated in Opeyemi Agbaje integrity and principle, a love for knowledge, a spirit of service and a passion for society. While his mother Mrs M.O Agbaje impacted thousands of lives through her work in the education sector at Girls School, Sagamu; Luba Schools, Ijebu-Ode; for decades as teacher and Headmistress at Corona Schools, Apapa, Yaba/Gbagada and Ikoyi, Lagos and as Founder/Headmistress of Learning Gate Schools, Ilupeju, Lagos; his father S.B Agbaje was a secondary school principal who became a principled and committed political leader in Sagamu and Ogun State, who served as Chairman of the Ogun State Central Schools Board and Local Government Service Commission between 1979 and 1983.

Opeyemi Agbaje attended Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos from 1976-1981; and the University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) from 1981-1985, graduating in Law with honors in 1985. He attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Bar in 1986. He earned a Masters degree in Law (LLM) from the University of Lagos, and later obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from IESE Business School, Spain. Opeyemi served the nation under the NYSC scheme in Benin, then Bendel State at the Ministry of Justice, DPP’s office from 1986 to 1987 and thereafter worked in law practice with Kola Awodein SAN & Co for two years. From 1990 to 2004, Opeyemi Agbaje worked in the banking sector in various institutions including First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Oceanic Bank and Metropolitan Bank, rising rapidly from Banking Officer to Executive Director. Opeyemi Agbaje has lectured at the Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University and served as Head of Department of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Business Environment before leaving the fulltime faculty. He continues as an adjunct faculty in strategy, economics and business environment.

In July 2004, Opeyemi voluntarily resigned from the banking sector to pursue his personal passion for advisory and consultancy services in strategy, management, economics, policy and organizational transformation through his consultancy firm, RTC Advisory Services Ltd. In 14 years, Opeyemi has built RTC Advisory Services into one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous consultancy firms.

In January 2006, Opeyemi Agbaje started writing the insightful and authoritative newspaper column “Economy, Polity, Society” in Business day Nigeria and has influenced Nigeria’s politics and economy through his writings. He has also been a strong voice in policy advocacy and public commentary in Nigeria through his participation in Patito’s Gang; his consistent appearances on TV and Radio discussions on Channels TV, STV, CNBC Africa and other broadcast media; and newspaper interviews. From 2012 to 2015, he was executive producer and host of his own TV show, “The Policy Council” which aired on Channels TV, LTV, OGTV and Ben TV London.

Opeyemi Agbaje is a recognized and reputable author with three books- “Uncomplex Strategy: Making Business Strategy Accessible to Managers, Entrepreneurs and Students” and “Democracy without Democrats: Travails of Politics and Development in Nigeria’s Economy 1999-2011” launched on April 2, 2015 and “The BRF Era: Policy and Governance in Lagos State 2007-2015” launched on May 6, 2016.
